PROMENADE DES ART HISTORY

The idea to bring Promenade des Art to Ste. Genevieve came to  John
Orem while reading an article on Janet Kraus being named Artist of the
Year.  He contacted the president of the Ste. Genevieve Art Guild,  Anna
Kirchner to set up a meeting with Janet.  Plans were made and the first
letter was sent to Jim Baker on April 25, 2001seeking permission to
use the Felix Valle Historic Site.

"Under the auspices of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Ste.
Genevieve and French Colonial Ste. Genevieve Inc.,  the Art Guilds of
Ste. Genevieve, Jefferson County and members of the Perry County will
present Promenade des Arts on September 22 & 23, 2001."

Goals
Provide a venue for local artists and art guilds to display and sell their
creations with an eye to the past, remembering the Artists Colony and
Summer Schools of Art which thrived is Ste. Genevieve from
1932-1941.

Encourage today's artists to paint the countryside and people of their
counties in the tradition of the Impressionists in France and in the spirit
of the summer school artist.

Showcase the work locally owned and preserved from the Summer
School artists in one of the original sites used by the colony, the
Mammy Shaw House.

Educate the public about the traditions of Art in Ste. Genevieve while
alerting them to all of the treasures which abound in the town, it's
historic homes, gardens, and unique shops and restaurants.
